11/16/2001  I feel like I'm back home! As with most of you who went to Chad, we moved

11-18-01 posted to another website:  I just found out that you could post for foreign schools!  Chad was home for 5 years.  I have very fond memories of the school and the great times that I had there.  I played in a rock band, the HoDads and the Red Barrons!  My first true love, Liz Kiner, the last "older woman" that I'd date (class of 1967)!  When the French ordered the Americans out it was really awful for me.  Liz left to go back to England before it was time for our family to go.  I still remember saying goodbye to her on a foggy morning and walking back towards the school, turning around every several yards to see her still waving to me but disappearing slowly in the fog.

We wrote to each other for a couple of years but youth can't sit around that long and soon the letters...and my daily memories of Liz, stopped.  That's how it's been for memories of the school as well, until now.  Thanks to everyone from Chad for great days, good times, and wonderful memories!

DiPIETRO, Sylvia (Bighinatti) Sylvia Maria (Bighinatti) DiPietro, 95, of Kensington, the widow of Sebastian "Sam" DiPietro, died Tuesday morning (March 25, 2008), at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Born in Venice, Italy, the daughter of the late Floriano and the late Palmina (Ferrarrino) Bighinatti, she grew up in East Berlin, owned and operated her own dress shop and cleaners in Kensington, was employed by both federal and state governments, and retired from Cedarcrest Hospital in Newington. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, and the League of Women Voters, lived and traveled throughout the world with her husband's military service, was a renowned cook, and was lovingly known as "Nonni" by everyone who knew her. She is survived by a son, Ret. Col. Roger Casalengo of Alexandria, Virginia, two daughters and a son-in-law, Palma "Pam" and Thomas Pethigal of East Berlin, and Beverly Symonaitis of Rocky Hill and Port St. Lucie, Florida, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Casalengo of Berlin, a sister, Laura Ferrero of Kensington, and left to cherish "Nonni's" memory are twelve grandchildren, William and Judy Charamut of Rock Hill, Rebecca Charamut-Cass and her husband Michael of Berlin, Chuck and Demaris Charamut of San Antonio, Texas, Rachael and Jason Hoops of Manchester, Debbie Mills in Kentucky, Denna and Eric Singer in Virginia, Roger and Debbie Casalengo in Florida, Milissa and Alan Dumont of Kensington, Christy and Steven Miano of Berlin, Tom and Tammy Pethigal of Woodbridge, Doreen Pethigal of Berlin, and David Pethigal of Berlin, and twenty-four great-grandchildren, all whom were her life and joy, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Toffolon, and two brothers, Donald and Enso Bighinatti. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9am from the Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Church, on Alling Street. Burial will follow in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 -8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross, Central Connecticut Chapter, 45 Russell Street, New Britain, CT 06052. 2000:  Received this website through my youngest son, and was thrilled to learn about it and some of my old classmates are still around. I often wondered where they were and what had become of them. I left Chateauroux in September 1959 for McConnell AFB, Kansas near Wichita, Kansas where my father was stationed. I met my husband John who was also stationed at McConnell. For the next twenty-four years I followed him to various duty assignments. We spent two years in England and ten and one-half years in Germany. While in Germany, we had a chance to visit Chateauroux with my mom. We went by the base and the Chateau where we lived.

We have three sons. Our eldest, Tony, lives in Fresno, California with his wife Tracy and son Tanner. Our second, Jerry, is currently in the Air Force stationed at Holloman AFB, NM. He has been in for almost eighteen years. Our youngest, Michael, lives in Las Vegas with his wife Vanessa and two sons, Alex and Ahren. When my husband retired from the Air Force, we moved to Merced, California. We lived there until May 2000. We are currently residing in Lincoln, Nebraska, but are planning to return to Merced once my husband retires from his current job. I had a Civil Service career for twenty-three years. I retired in 1999 when Sharpe Depot near Stockton, CA was closing and moving to Tracy.

[jpnote:  Roberta & John attended the 2003 Lake Tahoe reunion.  I visited in their home in Merced on my return trip to my home in Texas.  They have the most fabulous collection of German memorabilia including beautiful hand-carved massive pieces of furniture and every style of German beer stein you can imagine.  What a nice visit we had with them and their birds.)

2/23/00 - Hi, Attended Chad from 61 and would have graduated in 63, except dad was transferred to North Carolina in the middle of my senior year. I still consider myself a graduate of Chad. My name is now Steen, as I was adopted by my step-father. I spent a career in the army and retired in 1990 as a Command Sergeant Major. I now live in San Antonio, TX and work for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Will be glad to hear from anyone from Chad, especially class years 1963 - 1966.

Steve Fletcher '68 (Norman, OK);   Liz Cluff '67 (Washington State) and Liz Clark '68 (OK).  They got together awhile back in Oklahoma  and  probably ate some Mexican food - one of Steve's favorites.

2/2/00 -  I attended CHAS from 1964 until the middle of my senior year in 1967. I graduated from Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington in 1967. I then attended Clark College and became a registered nurse in 1969. I worked in a Recovery Room at a local hospital for 17 years and then changed professions and for the last 16 years I have worked as a secretary for a local school district. I have been happily married for 32 years and have two wonderful children and two grandchildren and one due in June. I would like to hear from anyone who attended CHAS in 1964 to 1967. I am so excited to find my old friends from Chateauroux. I still have several I hope to find some day. Hope you are all doing well out there.

03/21/2002 : I don't like to think of myself as someone who "lives in the past," but I have a lot of very fond memories of those pubescent years in France and of the great folks I met there.  It's been nice to be able to keep in touch with at least some of them
 

   3-7-06  I graduated in 1960 from Burkburnett HS in Texas, while my dad was stationed at Sheppard AFB. I earned my R.N. at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

8-2-07  Been back to Châteauroux twice (1985 & 2006) and got a guided tour of La Matenerie including [Quontown]  Ken's friends were:  Mike Stone, Gary Williams, Mike Frost, Bobby Hoke, Alan Adamek, Bill Kidwell, Johnny Crawford; Ronnie Rourke, Dink Hillman, Chico Price, Bob Holmes, Joe Walsh, Joe Bailey, Mike O’Brien and many more;  Karen Teets (Art’s girlfriend),  Kate Heschel, Marti Hash, Janet Kidwell, Carol Tripp, Ginette Hines (last 3 were girlfriends at one time or another) and many more.
